Tea in the Garden Card

Hello and a very happy Wednesday to you! Are you warm and cozy and creating something beautiful today? This is the second of three posts for me again this week! I'm trying to get a little ahead on projects and birthday cards, so I'll be enjoying some quality craft room time over the next few days.

We're launching an exciting challenge at The Frilly and Funkie BlogJenny is our hostess for the next two weeks and has chosen the theme: Enjoy your Embossing. You may make any vintage or shabby chic project of your choice that includes embossing. Use your favorite embossing methods (wet, dry, heat, or any other techniques you want to share) - just enjoy your embossing!

For complete challenge details just click on the blog link above. The winner will be featured in a guest design spot on The Frilly and Funkie Blog, plus everyone who enters will be placed in a drawing to receive a $25.00 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

Maja Design's gorgeous 'Ska vi ta en Fika' papers are distressed, layered, and stitched to form the base of the card. I'm in love with the purples in this collection. The embossing is done with Wendy Vecchi's Crackled Texture Paste and a Tim Holtz Gothic Stencil. I included some 'super close ups' so you can see how well the crackle texture comes out with Wendy's product. The stencil is amazing, too. It held up well to the paste for a crisp, clear design.

The blooming rose is handcrafted from the paper collection (tutorial here). The florals are dusted with Gesso. I love the shabby feel it gives them. The teapot on the bottom and coordinating flowers at the top are fussy cut from the paper collection.

Below is a close up of the distressed layering and the absolutely scrumptious papers. This card is ready to send out to a dear friend along with a gift of assorted teas.

I'm so happy you stopped by for a peek at my card. Y'all are my crafty family, and I treasure each and every one of you. Wishing you a day filled with joy!

Hugs,

'Pretty in Purple' Birthday Card for Maja Design

Fika Birthday Card (782x800) Maja

Hello, to all of my favorite crafty people! I hope you've all been safe and warm with all the crazy winter weather sweeping the Eastern section of the country. We were snowed in our cabin in the Smoky Mountains for a day, but it wasn't a hardship. It's been way too long since we slowed down and did 'nothing' together. Below is a photo I took from the front door of the cabin. We made it safely home on Monday evening and I'm already busy in my craft room again.

I'm thrilled to present my second project as part of the Maja Design creative team! We have five February birthdays in our family, so I'm happily crafting cards this time of year. I adore the purples in Maja Design's 'Ska vi ta en Fika?' collection, and couldn't resist creating this 'Pretty in Purple' birthday card.

Fika Birthday Florals 1 (800x772)

The blooming roses are handcrafted from the paper collection using Tim Holtz Tattered Florals dies. You can view a tutorial for these roses here on my blog. To create the larger flowers featured on this card, simply add additional layers of petals. The leaves are cut using a Magnolia Rose Leaf die. I dusted my florals with gesso for a soft, shabby finish.

The papers are distressed, stitched, and layered, then popped up with foam tape for added dimension. The center of the card is cut out with a Spellbinder's circle die to reveal a cheery floral pattern.

Below is a closer look at the layering, for a total of four layers plus the floral spray. Glass pearls are scattered here and there. I recently purchased them in bulk, and I love, love, love using them! If I could see into the future I would predict you may be seeing a lot of them... at least until they run out.

The natural twine bow is anchored by a tiny handcrafted rosebud.

Thank you so much for spending time with me today! I wish you a day filled with sunshine, happiness, and a sprinkle of fairy dust!
