Frilly and Funkie 'Something Wicked'

Welcome! I hope you're enjoying some lovely autumn weather in your area. All is well here. We returned on Sunday from a ten day vacation to Philadelphia, New York City, and Gatlinburg, TN. I'm currently in the midst of unpacking and catching up on all the laundry we accumulated while we were away. 

Today marks the beginning of an amazing new challenge! It's time to get creepy at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! Shelly is our hostess, with the theme of 'Something Wicked'. With Halloween just a few days away, she asks us to create a spooky vintage or shabby chic creation!

Charleston is one of the oldest cities in the U.S., with countless ghosts wandering its streets and structures. We have the distinction of being in the top ten most haunted cities in America. I didn't have to look far to find some chilling inspiration ~ the graveyard!    
    

My mother was Irish. She raised me on wondrous folktales and faerie stories. Celtic legend has it that on the night of Samhain, ghosts and spirits are free to wander as they wish. Here we glimpse the gentle apparition of a young girl resting upon a tombstone, bearing the gift of fresh flowers. 

I created an eerily elegant setting for this little miss, nestled among withered blooms and silky cobwebs. 

I distressed, layered, and stitched Maja Design's Vintage Summer Basics and Graphic 45's Rare Oddities paper collections. I unexpectedly got really inky with this card, making it difficult to see the detail in the papers.  

The layered lace embellishments were crafted using Spellbinders Oval Floral dies. 

For me nothing is complete without a bow, even if it is black as night and intertwined with spidery webs! 

Patiently she keeps her vigil, leaving us to wonder who she waits for. This is where our imagination must take over.

Frilly and Funkie 'Autumn Splendor'

Hello and welcome! I'm happy to report that the rain has stopped and flood waters are receding here in Charleston. Many people displaced by flooding are still in shelters. Many bridges and roads are still deemed unsafe. Our schools, government offices, and many businesses remain closed (except for Walmart who NEVER closed-lol). People are gradually returning to normal routines and clean up is under way. Whether it's been war, earthquake, hurricanes, or flooding, Charlestonians seem to regroup quickly and work together towards recovery.  

We're starting off this wonderful Wednesday day with some more great news. It's beginning of a fabulous new challenge at The Frilly and Funkie Blog!

I'm hosting for the next two weeks, and I've chosen the theme of: Autumn Splendor! Simply create a vintage or shabby chic project using the rich colors of autumn, and remember to include an autumn leaf somewhere in your project.

I love this season! I always get excited about traveling to the mountains for apple picking and leave watching, the first cup of hot cider, pumpkin desserts, and corn mazes. The inspiration for my card comes from the breathtaking fall foliage we enjoy on our fall holidays in the Smoky Mountains.      

I layered, distressed, and stitched Maja Design's Walking in the Forest collection to form the base of the card. An elegant autumn bouquet became the focal point. I die cut almost all of the embellishments using Alterations and Spellbinders dies, then began assembling my elements. The flowers are from Prima.  

Everything received a gentle dusting of Gesso. If you look closely you'll find a flourish liquid pearls tucked in among the leaves. As usual, my favorite final touch is a rustic twine bow.
