An exciting new challenge begins today at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! Cec is our hostess with the theme It's a Small, Small, World.
Her guidelines are as follows: Create or alter something small in a shabby chic or vintage style. Your finished project can be anything from an inchie, matchbook, or domino, to a playing card or note card. This means anything from 1-4 inches, and it does not have to be flat. be creative, and let us know in your post just how small your project is.
At the end of the challenge the team will choose their top four picks. Our first place winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at The Frilly and Funkie Blog. Three additional talented participants will receive badges to display on their blogs. I went 'junking' on our last trip to the mountains, scoring a bag full of vintage glass bottles in various shapes and sizes. This is the first of several 'potion' bottles I'm altering for a Halloween display.
It is the tiniest of my bottles at 3 by 3 1/2 inches, starting out life as a perfume bottle. I want it to look old as the ages, and absolutely dripping with mystery and magic. This little treasure contains a powerful love potion. Love Potion #9, to be exact! It's possible this may come directly from Professor Snape's private storeroom of potions at Hogwarts.
Prima Heavy Gesso provides a base coat, followed by Wendy Vecchi Crackle Texture Paste. Next comes a plethora of Prima Alchemy paints, Color Bloom sprays, and Distress Sprays. Metal elements, roses, a chipboard word, and two sizes of Prima art stones are altered as embellishments. There's a full list of supplies at the bottom of this post.
I'm thrilled that this tiny 'Potion #9' stamp has been hiding my craft hoard. In real life the colors of the bottle and embellishments flow more evenly, with the base color appearing pale blue. I think the camera is picking up on the mica in the sprays and emphasizing them. It's always difficult to display sheen in photos, but my little bottle practically glows!
