Postcards from Paris for Frilly and Funkie!

Hello, my lovely friends! How are you on this wonderful day? We're in the midst of a rainy week. My flowers are loving every minute of it. I enjoy the rain unless I have to drive in it or take project photos. Dreary days do not make for fun photo sessions.

Today we're announcing a new two week challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Blog! Zoe is our hostess with the theme of 'Oh, the places you'll go'. She asks to create a vintage or shabby chic project with travel as the central theme. Think planes, trains, automobiles, ships, maps, and globes.

At the end of the challenge the team will choose their top four picks. Our first place winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at the Frilly and Funkie Blog. Three additional talented participants will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and adheres to the challenge guidelines will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique! For entry specifics and  inspiration from my amazing teammates just click on the blog link above.

My dream is to visit the historic cities of Europe. I have a dear friend in France, and I can think of nothing more delightful than to tour Paris with her. This card has my bags packed and ready to travel!

Each paper element is distressed, layered and stitched, then popped up with foam adhesive. A digital image provides a dreamy focal point.

The Eiffel Tower and luggage set are stamped on design paper and cut. Distress paints add a shabby touch to the filigree metal elements and Prima Art Stones.

The flowers are handcrafted from design paper. My tutorial for these flowers can be found here.

Thank you so much for sharing your time with me!! I hope you'll be joining in the challenge and show us where you want to go! It's a super fun theme that you can take in any direction your heart desires. I also want to thank you for your kind comments on my last project. I feel incredibly blessed to have such an amazing crafty family! Sending wishes for light, love, and happiness!

Hugs,

Garden Gate Card for Maja Design!

Hello and a warm welcome! I'm thrilled to be able to share this new project for  Maja Design with you. I'm completely in love with Maja Design's beautiful new paper collection, Vintage Romance. I'm featuring it today along with the lovely Vintage Autumn Basics collection in my Garden Gate card.

You'll find quite a bit of layering and fussy cutting in this card. All of the embellishments except the chipboard gates are created from the design paper. The faux brick wall is courtesy of Gabrielle Pollacco's Tuscan Wall stencil and Wendy Vecchi Crackle Texture Paste.

The flowers are handcrafted from design paper and a Sizzix die using glass pearls as a center. You'll find natural twine and cheesecloth accents for a soft, whimsical touch.

Below are close ups of the layering and embellishments. Each layer is popped up with foam adhesive for a dimensional effect.

Cars Album for Frilly and Funkie!

Hello to you on this beautiful day! I know this photo doesn't look like it belongs on my blog, but if you read on you'll find there's a good reason for that.

It's the start of a brand new two week challenge at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! Kathy is our hostess, with the Challenge Theme of Opposites Attract.  For this challenge Kathy asks us to create any type of project you choose, as long as it is not done in your usual style and color palette.

My signature style is soft, flowery, and feminine with a vintage touch. And there's always a bow! I had to dig really deep to find my way out of it. I threw a few projects in the trash bin before deciding on this Tim Holtz grunge board/grunge paper album in bright, primary colors.

My grandboy is a 'Cars' fan. Maybe more than your average fan. He has the entire film memorized! We're planning a family Disney trip, so I crafted him a Cars themed album to use as an autograph book.

The album is created using Tim Holtz Grunge Board for the exterior. The pieces of the cover are joined with Tyvek envelope scraps. Tyvek envelopes NEVER tear, no matter how hard you try. You literally must cut them with a sharp scissors to get them open, so they work perfectly for my project. The three ring binder is also a Tim Holtz item that is attached to the spine with brads. Once assembled the entire album is coated in a base of black gesso. The spine has an additional, more flexible overlay of Grunge Paper. It's embossed then painted in Fire Brick Red Distress Ink.

The outer and inner boards are covered in hand stitched, embellished pages. The inside of the front cover features a handstitched pocket containing a collection of Route 66 vintage postcards.

A few embellishments are purchased, but most are handcrafted from found items and images. The miniature postcards are printed from actual vintage postcards that I collected and scanned.

The inner pages are left blank for signatures from Mickey and the entire Disney gang, and of course, a page for a photo of my grand munchkin with the one and only Lightening McQueen!

Mater is fussy cut from a found image. He is several layers deep. Each layer is popped up with foam tape for a dimensional appearance. All of the images and embellishments are covered in Multi Medium Matte or Gloss to lend protection and durability.

The back cover features the entire population of Radiator Springs! You may have noticed there is no bow anywhere on this album! It was difficult, but I did it!

Thanks so much for visiting with me! Now it's your turn to look inside yourself and create something completely out of your usual style. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hugs,

'Love is in the Air' for Maja Design!

Hello and welcome! I hope you're having a lovely day. Do you have plans for Mother's Day this weekend? I will be blessed to spend the weekend with my husband, children, and grandchildren. I can hardly wait!

Today I'm sharing my 'Love is in the Air' card for Maja Design! It features Maja Design's recently released paper collection, Vintage Romance! I discovered that Vintage Romance partners perfectly with Vintage Autumn Basics and Vintage Summer Basics, so I couldn't resist using all three collections in my card.

Three layers of design paper are distressed, layered, and stitched in the usual fashion to form the base of the card. Now the real fun begins! Die cutting and fussy cutting are combined to create embellishments for this romantic garden. All of the elements are popped up with foam tape for a dimensional effect. The photos below give a peek into the layering.

The roses are handmade using design paper. You can find a tutorial for these roses on the sidebar of my blog. A scattering of glass pearls and a twine bow are fanciful touches in this enchanting garden.

Layered die cut frames provide a dreamy backdrop for the focal image which is fussy cut from design paper.
