Hello and welcome to all of my crafty friends! I'm back for a second time this week. I'm sharing a card that's definitely outside my usual style. It didn't start out that way, but everything I did seemed to go wrong. My son and I have been sick with high fevers and sore throats since we came home from vacation. Crafting is my escape from all things stressful, but this week was a challenge. The good news is my fingers are covered in blue/green ink and I accidently wore two different colors of socks today. That means tomorrow is going to be amazing!
Today marks the start of a new two week challenge at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! Our challenge theme is All Lined Up. Jenny is our hostess, and her guidelines are as follows:
For this challenge you need to think in straight lines! Be it rows or columns, stripes or even grids make sure those vertical and/or horizontal lines are a clearly visible part of your vintage or shabby chic projects (the edges don't count!)
At the end of the challenge the team will choose their top four picks. Our first place winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at the The Frilly and Funkie Blog. Three additional talented participants will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and adheres to the challenge guidelines will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique! For entry specifics and inspiration from my amazing teammates just click on the blog link above.
I chose vertical lines in the form of this aged wooden fence paper from Maja Design's Vintage Summer Basics. Torn strips of cardstock receive a coating of Distress Stains and are layered vertically and horizontally.
I don't have a 'before' photo, but when everything was stained it was a little too bright for me. I gave everything a coat of Tim Holtz Distress Vintage Collage Medium to tone it down. It's still bright, but it took the edge off.
The flowers (from Prima) and leaves are colored with Distress Stains to coordinate with my project. I did a little embossing with a Tim Holtz stencil, and tucked in a bit of cheesecloth.
Thank you so much for coming by to visit with me! It's time to turn the challenge over to you. I'm super excited to see how you'll interpret it. I wish you a day of joy and happy adventures!
Hugs,
So sorry to hear you've all been so poorly. I hope everyone is back to full fitness as soon as possible. Though it may be out of your comfort zone this is still a lovely card Nancy with those lines in the background and a clever tip for toning down bright colours xx
ReplyDeleteHope you soon feel better.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful project with wonderful ideas.

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you haven't been feeling well Nancy!! Your card is just scrumptious! I love the deep, rich tones, like a lush forest! Beautiful mixed media card! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Boo! I'm amazed that you were able to create such a gorgeous card under such difficult circumstances. I love the worn "fence" behind your gorgeous rosebush. The color palette is so richly vintage. I would say you hit a high line drive with this beauty, my friend. Please feel better soon! xo
ReplyDeleteLove this card. You should go outside your comfort zone more often because every time you do, a beauty is created. I love the colour palette - it looks like you brought the mountain back with you - lush and bright with the wood background representing a bit of the Smoky. Love the mixed media you are adding to your cards and especially love the ink on the flowers. Feel better fast.
ReplyDeleteHugs!

What a bummer to be sick! But on the positive side of that is your card. I love the card and yes it really is not your usual card. You have done a fantastic design with the colors, paper and sprays! Great going Nancy!
ReplyDeleteHugs and get Better!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Nancy! Hope you are well soon!
ReplyDeleteLove this beautiful card Nancy, the fabulous background paper and your gorgeous flower arrangement fit together perfectly. Hope you have that amazing day and that you feel better soon xxx
ReplyDeleteNancy, so sorry you and your son are feeling badly; there is nothing worse than feeling horrible when it's already so hot outside. But it doesn't seem to have affected your crafting in the least! Your card is brilliant, but perhaps you should have waited for the Funkie side to present! Ha! Ha! Love your funkie side! The stencil work looks amazing, as do your flowers, foliage and sentiment! Really love this! Healing hugs coming your way!
ReplyDeletePS I meant to say I hope you are feeling much, much better by now! Hugs!:)
ReplyDeleteI hope you are all better by now! Your card is fabulous and doesn't reflect your state of health as it is wonderful. Love that touch of stenciling behind the flowers as they look like berries or pods that are part of the bouquet!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous creation Nancy! And thank you so much for your lovely comment on my Blog today too. Judy x
ReplyDeleteDifferent from your usual but still wonderful! Hope you are better by now.
